| Abstract | A distribuição sazonal e global da umidade do solo derivada a partir de um modelo simples de balanço de água no solo é apresentada. Valores medidos de precipitação e de temperatura são utilizados no cálculo do balanço hidrológico. Informações de textura de solo, em escala global, são utilizadas para calcular a capacidade de água disponível que controla a variação do armazenamento de água no solo. A formulação de Penman-Monteith é usada neste estudo para a estimativa da evapotranspiração de referência, com as resistências de superfície e aerodinâmica calculadas através dos parâmetros do esquema de superfície “Simplified Simple Biosphere Model” para 13 diferentes tipos de vegetação. Em grande escala, o modelo reproduz o contraste entre regiões úmidas e secas, similarmente como descrito na climatologia apresentada em outros trabalhos. No território brasileiro, as regiões Norte e Sul do Brasil não apresentam diminuição significativa na umidade no decorrer do ano devido aos altos índices pluviométricos causados, tanto pelos sistemas convectivos na região Norte, quanto pelos freqüentes sistemas frontais que alcançam a região Sul do país, o que resulta num maior percentual de armazenamento de água no solo. ABSTRACT: Global and seasonal monthly patterns of available soil moisture content were derived from observed precipitation and air surface temperature using a simple water budget model. Soil texture properties were used to calculate the soil moisture storage capacity. The evapotranspiration was calculated using the Penman-Monteith expression; surface parameters of the Simplified Simple Biosphere Model were used to calculate the surface and aerodynamic resistances of 13 different vegetation types. On a large scale, the model reproduced the differences between wet and dry regions as shown by other studies. Within Brazil, regions in the North and South of the country did not show significant reductions in soil moisture content through the year. This was due to the high rainfall caused by convective systems in the North of the country and cold fronts in the South, which maintained high levels of soil moisture storage. |
